Bringin' down the House
The MVP
The National Basketball Association has named the 2008-2009 regular season Most Valuable Player. The winner was…………LeBron James. What a surprise! I personally thought that Dwyane Wade should be the MVP but I’m not going to argue that LeBron shouldn’t be. He deserves that award.
James is ultimate team player; it’s always about the team and never about him. He knows that he is unstoppable but will always say that was his teammates that help him with his greatness. He had the award presented to him at his high school St. Vincent-St. Mary’s in Akron Ohio because he wanted his former high school teammates to enjoy what they helped him achieve.
James is the face of the NBA. He knows who came before him and hardships that players had to endure to have the road paved for the players of this generation to make millions of dollars. He is a historian and will always acknowledge the great players that have came before him. When he was interviewed by Cheryl Miller after the 99-72 game one win over Atlanta in Cleveland, he made sure to mention the Robertsons, Jabbars, Chamberlains of the past that had won the award and when he said he was honored you could tell he was truly sincere. A lot of today’s players have no idea the rough road that the NBA had to become as popular as it is today, but James does and he is grateful for it and will always tip his cap to the former greats.
James averaged 28.6 points per game, 7.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game. The question that comes up is now, “could he have averages a triple double for a season?” The only player in the history of the Association to average a triple double for the season was “The Big O” Oscar Robertson.
Oscar Robertson was the most talented player to ever play the game of basketball. Yes I said someone other than his Airness was the greatest ever and lightning hasn’t struck me for blasphemes yet. Michael Jordan was the greatest player ever but not the most talented that title belongs to Robertson.
To say Robertson plays like a player today is an insult. He created moves and fakes before they were even invented. Robertson’s career spanned 14 seasons with the Cincinnati Royals and the Milwaukee Bucks. He compiled 26,710 points and 9,887 assists. That was the all-time record and lasted for almost 20 years. In the 1961-62 season Robertson posted this sat line for the season. 30.8 ppg, 12.5 rbs, 11.5 ast. Keep in mind this was before the advent of the three point shot. These are absurd numbers and yet Robertson says he could still average a triple-double in today’s NBA. I think he could also.
Could LeBron James do it? Absolutely. James could go out and get 10 points, boards and assists by halftime if he wanted, but I still don’t think that he could have the numbers that Robertson put up. Plus LeBron would never selfishly try to get a triple-double just to prove that he could. James cares about winning and that is it.
In my opinion Kobe Bryant is still the best player in the league, but LeBron in right behind him. LeBron however is the face of the NBA and he embodies that role. Outside of Tiger Woods no other sport has a face quite like LeBron and David Stern knows this. The NBA unlike the NFL, MLB and NHL markets stars instead of teams. The NBA is living high on the hog right now, and will be for the entire reign of King James.

Chuck Hayes Getting Some Love...
Chuck Hayes was mentioned on ESPN.com's Henry Abbott's TrueHoops page. The article explains Chuck's passion for playing stellar defense instead of worrying about what his box score looks like. Essentially, Abbott is telling Kentucky fans things we're already aware of.

After some shared concern of fellow YDF'ers, I feel it is necessary to sort of shed some light as to why the site is "starting to blow..." For one, it is not starting to blow, simply because this will not continue into the future. We are all in agreement that the posts are reasonably slow and without much depth right now. I can assure you that this is not a sign of things to come. The majority of YDF contributors are balls-deep in finals week right now. For those of you who have experienced finals week in college, you should be able to relate. For those who have not, one word comes to mind to sum the week up for you: hell. I speak for all of us when I say that spending 8-10 hours a day for a week and a half straight in the library is not too much fun.
On another note, YDF is currently in the process of launching a newer, better, and far more comprehensive version of yourdalyfix. This process is not a copy and paste sort of deal, therefore it is also taking up a lot of time. With all of that having been said, bear with us fixers, I guarantee you it will be well worth your time.

Bringin' down the House
Bringin’ down the House
The play offs are now upon us, we have the first round in the books and nobody loves play off basketball more then me, but I have to say outside of Chicago-Boston this first round was a snoozer. ESPN has saturated you with all of the Boston-Chicago news and if you follow basketball you watch all the game so this is all I’m going to be saying about that series. I was great, but not the best ever. Let’s get real it was a first round series. I loved it, I watched every game but the stakes weren’t high enough to make it the all time greatest. This garbage that was the Atlanta-Miami series was miserable to watch. The average margin of victory was 20+ points. The home team won every game and if you want to win a championship or just beat the Cavs at least one time you have to win one game on the road and the Hawks couldn’t beat the one trick pony Miami Heat one time on the road.
The Denver Nuggets are playing some amazing basketball right now. They have done the most remarkable job of morphing from an offensive team to a hard nosed defensive club. I can’t state the fact that the trade for Chauncey Billups was one of the best trades ever that I have seen. Billups has taken command of a team that had very little discipline and turned it into one of the most disciplined teams in the NBA. When Denver gets a lead of ten points or more the game is over. Billups can control the flow of the game so that if the opposing team tries to make a run he will nip it in the bud. They can turn a ten point lead into a twenty point lead in no time.
The match up in the second round isn’t going to go well for the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavs are a finesse team and the Nuggets are a big physical team. The Mavs are a jump shooting team. They have no big man that can be fed the ball and score with his back to the basket. Dirk is a jump shooter but he doesn’t drive the ball enough to create shots for the rest of his teammates. The 109-95 win today was telling. Denver shot shot 36 free throws compared to the 13 of Dallas. That shows that they are just sitting back shooting jumpers.
The Los Angeles Lakers-Houston Rockets series is going to be the best series of the second round. Yao Ming is going to give the Lakers fits. Yao Ming is dominant in the post and LA doesn’t like to play behind big men they like to play in front of the opposing big man. This is going to cause trouble for Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol. I’m really looking forward to this series; my call is LA wins the series in six.
Thank you,
Jared House

Sundaly Female Golfer of the Week..... IS BACK!

I know many of you 'fixers' out there were disappointed to see Eldrick not close the deal today on the PGA Tour. Tiger really struggled all day with the flat stick and looked like Wulfeck on the greens three putting from 30 feet. To help get over your depressing mood I thought Melissa Reid could do the trick. This honey from overseas is still new on the golf scene, but definitely has raw game and the looks to go with it. The 21 year old has won many amateur tournaments in her homeland of England and finished in the top 5 on the European LPGA Tour multiple times in 2008. Expect great things in the future from this blonde bombshell.
