Now I love Colin Cowherd and think he is one, if not the greatest, in sports talk radio today. However, when he said the other day that the NBA Playoffs were better than the NCAA March Madness tournament I completely lost it. Now I can understand some of his strong points. It's obvious the NBA has some of the greatest athletes in the world ala Kobe, LeBron, D-Wade, etc. So obviously there are going to be great performances and great games. But it seems like the individual performances are what overshadows any of the great games or great series. Let's talk about the NBA Playoffs weak points. Take for instance last night's 58 point laugher the Denver Nuggets put on the New Orleans Hornets. Can you please find a way to defend a tournament where teams only separated by 5 games over a 82 game season can be so unevenly matched??? The top two teams cruised through uneventful series with their opponents (Cavs sweep Pistons, Lakers take down Jazz 4-1). This isn't surprising as over the past 20 years a team not a number 1 or 2 seed has reached the NBA Finals only 4 times (with 2 of these being 3 seeds). Talk about exciting!!! Now obviously people will compare 1 vs. 8 matchup to the 1 vs. 16 matchup in March Madness. To me both are a wash so there is no debate. But in terms of quality of games, upset potential, and the ability of more teams to win it all, make the case for the NCAA tourney a much more exciting post season than the NBA Playoffs. It's too bad studs like Kobe and LeBron felt the need to jump right to the NBA, otherwise we may have some of their greatest highlights being re-run on "One Shining Moments" of years past.

I'd rather watch a 1 vs. 16 in the NCAA tourny where teams are allowed to run the defense they choose then watch a 1 vs.8 in a serious of 30 any day.
