March 31st, A Day To Remember..
A lot has changed in the past year. On March 31, 2008, William (Bill) Bond Keightley passed away. Keightley was the equipment manager for the University of Kentucky Men's Basketball squad for forty-eight years. Mr. Wildcat is one of the most popular icons in college basketball history and will forever be remembered in the bluegrass. Today we enter yet another era in Kentucky Basketball, and unlike any before this, Mr. Keightley will not be able to welcome our new head coach. But, remember this, like Rupp, Pitino, Hall, Sutton, Tubby, and even Coach G, Mr. Keightley's spirit, charisma, and unconditional pride always help guide Coach Calipari through the good and bad times here at THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY.
GO CATS!
Thank You - Kentucky Fans, Mitch Barnhart, Lee Todd, and all the boosters
We did that because we want to win. We want to win because of the huge pressure the Kentucky fans put on our athletic department. I'm not even a big Barnhart or Todd fan but they landed the big one this time. They got the best candidate when we needed him the worst. If Caliapri can't win here, no one can.
Kentucky was tired of being mediocre or even a little above average. Kentucky fans want to be the best. Why? Because we are fucking badasses. The FedEx guy, Fred Smith, is on the Forbes 400 list with a net worth of 1.3 billion dollars and was supposedly meeting with Calipari late last night for hours trying to convince him to stay. Well he didn't stay. The richest guy in Kentucky who is active in the basketball program has a net worth of 500 million dollars tops and we got him. We don't give a fuck about anything but winning.
As Greg Doyle from CBS Sports said, "Calipari won like Kentucky at UMass and he won like Kentucky at Memphis." What do you think he will do at Kentucky? I'll fucking tell you what he will do at Kentucky. He will win like the US won in World War II, he will win like UCLA won in the 60's and 70's, and he will win like the Bulls won in the 90's. Bye bye parity in college basketball. It is all over. When Caliapri is done kicking ass sometime in 20 or so years, we might even be tired of dominating so badly. Kentucky fans' dicks will be sore from sticking them so far up Billy Donovan and Bruce Pearl, and Rick Pitino's ass every year. This is my last post about basketball for awhile. I'm so happy I can't even type any more. THANK YOU KENTUCKY FANS FOR NOT SETTLING FOR ANYTHING LESS THAN THE BEST. YOU ARE THE REASON WE ARE BACK!
HOLY CAL!
135th Kentucky Derby Preview
Warm weather, smells of spring, The Final Four, barbecues, and corn hole bring with them one of the most exciting times of year, Keeneland opening weekend. Keeneland, or as I passionately refer to it as the Mecca, is just around the corner and will be kicking off its annual spring meet this Friday. It's a time to break out your Sunday best and make your way out to the track to meet with friends and family to enjoy your beverage of choice, as well as, see some of the greatest racing in the country. It's one of the most enjoyable times of the year. The start of Keeneland's spring meet is considered by many to be the start of the countdown to the "most exciting two minutes in sports, the Kentucky Derby. The Derby is set to take place May 2nd at Churchill Downs in Louisville and is the first leg of the Triple Crown which also includes the Preakness and followed by the Belmont Stakes.
The Kentucky Derby is a grade 1 stakes race for three year old thoroughbreds and carries with it a 2 million dollar purse. 20 slots are available in which many hope to obtain through winning other stakes races and collecting enough earning to be entered into the select field. It is thought of by many in the industry to be the crown jewel of horse racing and has catapulted many jockeys and thoroughbreds in to fame and fortune.
As of today there have been 12 horses who have locked up a slot in the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby. So far the Field includes:
1. Old Fashioned
2. Vineyard Haven
3. Beethoven
4. Square Eddie
5. Pioneer of the Nile
6. Freisan Fire
7. Desert Party
8. The Pamplemousse
9. Quality Road
10. I Want Revenge
11. Win Willy
12. Mafaaz (GB)
8 more spots are up for grabs and it will be interesting to see who will be the lucky ones to grab them. Promising horses such as Dunkirk who were thought by many to be a shoe in for the Derby was bested by Quality Road in the Florida Derby this past weekend and will have to have good fortune on its side to get into the field of 20 on that first Saturday in May. As the Derby nears those slots will be filled and I will keep you posted on any news or changes that are to come in the days leading up to one of Kentucky's proud traditions.
Quality Veteran of the Week
Ashley Judd
Ok with all of these rumors and nonsense flying around about the coaching position at Kentucky I thought that this weeks QV would maybe get our minds off of it for a couple minutes but like all the others I've gotten sucked back in and decided to follow the theme this week. So this weeks QV goes to actress Ashley Judd, age 40. The famed Kentucky Basketball fanatic is a no brainer. It also might be an omen that she just turned 40 several months ago qualifying her for this honor during this week. She's the type of QV that no matter how things are going in the season she always going to be the one telling you to keep your head up and there is plenty of time left to turn the season around(get that body right just in time for beach season). She's the one who believes it's not over till the clock hits triple zero and that tanking it to get a better draft pick is unacceptable. While the game is out of reach and everyone is else cheesing it up on the bench talking about next week she is reminding you that there is still 1:03 on the clock and you are only up 48. Just the kind of girl I want keeping my rookies heads in the game and to remind them to keep grinding. I'll be honest I've always thought she was a tad overrated but any girl looks better in blue. Am I right fellas?
On This Day in History...
BEAT THE RUSH!
Announcement This Afternoon?
The rumors are flying this morning, just as we knew they would be, and grown men are downright losing their minds about this whole situation. People are tracking flights, calling airports, following Calipari around to different donut shops and all kinds of other wacky stuff. And of course there are the countless reports of "friends knowing people close to the situation" who love to throw in their inside information every five minutes. All of the reports are still looking positive for the CATS however, and we're hoping for an announcement/press conference sometime this afternoon. I'm on standby right now to run straight to Memorial Colisseum whenever Mitch tells me to.
Who wants JC when we can get the BIG PC!!!

Actually, The Cincinnati Reds have done something great, reinstituting their "Value Menu" at Reds' Games this season. It is the 1st $1 menu since 2007.

Are You Seeeeeeeriiiioooouuuussss?!!!?
What if? The Turk says what if we add Cousins & Wall, Sallie & Witherspoon. That alone would be incredible.
What if we're able to keep Orton, Hood, Vilarino & Ferguson?
What if Meeks & Patterson stay?
We'd be the most talented team in the nation while playing the most exciting brand of basketball.
And just so you can continue to dream, check out this video of John Wall. A reporter out of Charlotte (Wall's hometown) reports that Wall would follow Cal to Kentucky. Believe that at your own risk.
John Wall - the video is appropriately named "The Sickest Player In the Country - John Wall." After watching that, I'd have to agree.
Enjoy.

Jealous, Damn Right I am!!!
So although much of this post revolves around speculation, one thing is certain. I, along with anyone else who has been in the city of Lexington over the past 4 years (my case, 5) is wondering why this couldn't have happened when we were in school??? I remember going back to freshman year and camping outside of Rupp just to watch Keith Langford and Aaron Miles (no Wayne Simien) kick our ass. Or getting 3 McDonald's All-American's just to watch the team fizzle and not put up a legitimate Final 4 team. I wondered what it would have been like to be here in Lexington during the glory years of 1996-1998. Well many of you lucky freshman fixers might get to experience a similar era.
Update...
John Calipari doesn't mess around...
I've also heard that Sully Sullenburger, the pilot who landed safely in the Hudson River, has been hired to fly Calipari to Lexington, just so we are sure that he will be in good hands and arrive safely. I might have made that last sentence up but I want it to be true so badly.
Cousins, Wall to follow?
Do Demarcus Cousins & John Wall follow Calipari to Kentucky? Rumors swirling that Wesley Witherspoon, a frosh at Memphis, may want to follow Calipari to Lexington as well. Other players & recruits have also been mentioned, but at this point, it's all speculation.
The bottom line is that there is going to be an awful lot of talent in Lexington next year, even if Calipari does not bring in his "own" guys.
I think Kentucky being able to land a big-time name & recruiter will solidify my thoughts that Patterson & Meeks will return to school. I think it will also help AJ Stewart develop, if he returns.
My question is this: With all of the rumors / speculation / excitement surrounding the program right now, where do the scholarships come from?
That, my friends, may turn out to be the $6.67 million dollar question.
It's a done deal...Part II
To clear things up...
To be clear though, the source who told me about the meeting with Calipari that occurred on Sunday, told me he was offered the job with a general outline of the contract terms by a third party on Sunday. The person who made the offer was a representative sent down by Barnhart, Todd, and the University of Kentucky on their behalf. This person told me that Calipari had accepted the job based on those general contract terms on Sunday pending an official offer from Barnhart that has been approved by Todd and the board of representatives of UK. They also needed to recieve permission to make the official offer, but not the general offer made by the third party. This official offer occurred today. It is an unbelievable offer that has been said to be in the 6 years and 40 million dollar range.
Keep in mind that ESPN and other news sites have been behind in announcing the latest news on this situation. My report about the Sunday meeting came at 11 last night. ESPN reported the exact same thing at 10:30 am this morning.
John Calipari will be announced as coach either later today or tomorrow. A press conference in Lexington with him attending will occur tomorrow or Wednesday. While everything I've said about the Calipari situation seemed premature at the time, it all proved to be 100% correct. If I could reveal my source you all would understand completely. The above statements aren't rumors. They are facts. He is the next coach unless he were to have a complete last minute change of heart.
Kentucky Gets Permission To Talk To Calipari
Can I get a HELL YEAH?!
Please, stop the insanity!
So, we move to John Calipari. Rumors are swirling that there is mutual interest, and that a deal could potentially be completed within the next 24 hours.
Many think that Calipari will come to Kentucky simply for financial reasons. Surely nobody can throw more money at Calipari than Kentucky, right? Well, maybe - or maybe not. Memphis has some of the wealthiest boosters in the land & have a great "working" relationship with FedEx and their higher-ups. By "working", I mean that FedEx gives Memphis as much money as they want. There are a short list of programs who can compete with Kentucky financially, and I think Memphis is one of the select few. And there's no doubt in my mind that Memphis is committed to John Calipari...
Here is my request to Kentucky fans, both on the internet message boards & standing around the water cooler. Let the people in charge do their job, and quit spreading rumors.
The fact of the matter is that we're all hopeful & excited about what the future may hold. If Calipari comes, he could be great & he could bring some star recruits with him for next year; however, nothing is official & many coaches don't like to throw their former employer (and the program that they helped build) under the bus by "stealing" their recruits. Billy Gillispie refrained from bringing DeAndre Jordan, the #1 center who committed to BCG @ Texas A&M, with him to Kentucky because he didn't want to upset A&M. It was the right thing to do, in my opinion.
Let me set the record straight. I've read some inaccurate posts on here (and elsewhere) and would like to take the time to straighten things out.
Xavier Henry is the #1 recruit in the nation. He has committed & signed with Memphis. It's likely that he will end up in Memphis, with or without Calipari.
DeMarcus Cousins is the #4 player in the nation. He's a 6'10'' big man who is the #1 ranked center coming out of high school. He, like Henry, has committed to Memphis; however, Cousins has not signed with the Tigers, which basically means that he can still go wherever he pleases.
John Wall is one of the top PG's in the land, hailing from North Carolina. He's also a top 10 player in the nation, and his list of schools have been trimmed to Memphis & Duke. As I posted earlier, Seth Curry has announced that he will transfer to Duke, so this may impact Wall some; however, Wall is the type of impact player that can start at virtually any program in the country. He HAS NOT COMMITTED ANYWHERE - and that includes John Calipari & Memphis.
The rumors & excitement is running rampant in Lexington & the great Commonwealth of Kentucky. Undoubtedly, it is the product of the enormous amount of support of the Kentucky basketball program; however, we need to keep things in perspective & to our best to stay on focus & spread the truth -- not rumors & hearsay.
Here's hoping that Kentucky will seek permission to speak with Calipari & will make him an offer that he cannot refuse!
It's a done deal...
Shamwow Guy Gets Arrested...
Never in my life have I been so happy to hear of someone getting sent to the grey-bar motel. Vince the Shamwow Guy, who so flamboyantly screams at us soaking up Coca-Cola through carpet squares on TV and now somehow ESPN, got arrested in South Beach. Believe it or not, this guy was arrested for battery after paying a prostitute $1000 to get busy and his shamwow. When asked, the prostitute stated "His bluetooth microphone set me on, fire down below, and I bit him." Anyways, check out this article, they dog on Pittsburgh as well which is always a fun time since...well since Pittsburgh is terrible.

New Coach Update
Seth Curry To Duke
Seth Curry is expected to transfer to Duke. That's right, Seth Curry, better known as "Stephen's little brother", "Dale Curry's son," or "The kid whose Mom is smokin' hot" will be a Dookie.
Curry, formerly of Liberty, is listed at 6'3'' & 180 lbs. dripping wet. Basically, he too, is a little bitch.
The younger Curry averaged 20.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, & 2.3 assists per game. He shot 34.7% from downtown, & averaged 1.4 steals per game.
Naturally, I look for his stats to take a hard hit in the ACC, as he doesn't have the physical tools to compete night-in & night-out in the ACC. But this is a great deal for both Curry & Duke.
Curry gets to play on a big-time stage, like he & his brother both wanted to do. Duke gets a guy with a lot of potential, the opportunity to have him hit the weights hard in his transfer/redshirt season, and then have 3 years from a shooter with an NBA pedigree.
The bad news: Dookies get a guy who has potential & can shoot the rock.
The good news: Curry's mom may steal airtime from Coach K.

'Racin...It's all I never known' - Junior
Summer is rapidly approaching and the only thing that goes better on Sundays than, say the final round of THE MASTERS, the Lake, hitting the links with Bret Stephens, or sleeping on the couch all day is America's second favorite past time, thats right NASCAR. Here's the remaining schedule for 2009 complete with the Channel it will be broadcast on. Note: August 22nd marks the Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee. Attending this race 2 years ago, I can vouch that, believe it or not, it is one of the wildest nights of the year. Like Bonnaroo, the Little Sturgis Rally, the Peckenpaugh's family Christmas Party, my transcript, it is a complete shit show. Un-Like Mardi Gras, you don't need shiny beads to get your bube fix. Attend, drink yourself into oblivion, dress in what you want, do what you want, turn off your brain-to-mouth filter and let loose. No one is judging.
