Kentucky is Sad...

According to a recent 'Gallup Poll' Kentuckian's ranked 49th of 50 states in "Overall Happiness". Since all of all my family ties and roots are in the Bluegrass State that got the hampster on the wheel in my head moving. In my opinion I would think most people from my home state live nice and easy lives. Free of traffic, free of crime, free of co-workers that dont speak english... lives strong with family values and in a beautiful stress free setting. Right? The results were pooled and rated off ideal questions like the following , "Did you laugh or smile yesterday?", "Are you satisfied with you job?, " Did you eat healthy yesterday?", "Do you feel safe in you neighborhood?" Ya know if I'm answering those questions for a majority of my statehooded breathern I would have positive to semi-postive answers for all of the following sans the "healthy eating question" being that Kentucky is home to the "Hot Brown", Fried Chicken, Derby Pie and some of the best damn BBQ around. So my educated guess to why all Kentuckians are "lined up for the lithium" has to do with the questions that Gallup polled them on... In this Gallup dropped the generic questions that you or I could mustard up... Health, Work, Saftey... Those that are no brainers! What this article failed to mention was the sector of the 42 questions that asked about "overall satisfactory of state basketball programs" and "approval rating of those program's coaches". This is why KY is at the bottom of the barrel right now! Kentuckian's for the majority are in a state of disaray... Not because the stock market is down, not because a african american democrat just got sworn in, not because they don't have jobs, not because they got their sister pregs... But because Kentucky Basketball is on the verge of not making the NCAA Tournement for the first time in 18 years. For a child this would be like finding out here is no Santa and that you were adopted on Christmas Day. I mean how do you think they would respond to questions about the quality of their life if you were to poll them on say... December 26th? Kentuckians eat, breath, talk and shit basketball and the large sum do it in blue and white. Kentuckians plan all of their vacations around this time of the year. Spring Break is not planned around The Keys or Destin... It is Atlanta or Nashville or where ever the Cats draw in the bracket. They name their first born's Rex and Richie. They pass down season tickets in wills and trust for generations. I'm sure if this question were asked in the late 70's, or mid to late 90's Kentucky, as a state, would be sitting 20 spots up in the "happiness category"... Seriously!!! As this pill is tough for outsiders to swallow it is true and resignates to every Kentuckian reading this post. I can understand that Kentucky will never rank in the top ten of a national happiness category... I mean... Unless... They have Travis Ford coaching a floor full of white boys all from Kentucky public county schools... They score over 100 points a game lanuching 3 after 3... Go undeafeated with zero contested wins and beat either Louisville, Indiana or Duke in the NCAA finals. Only then will Kentucky have a shot at true happiness.
