In other news...

As most of you should know (if not, wake up...), our amigos down south have been absolutely shooting each other up in a large-scale drug war for a few years now. Kidnappings, extortion, and murders have been part of everyday life for everyone living in or visiting Mexico for a good three years now. Last year alone, over 6,000 lives were taken in Mexico, the majority of which as a result of this onslaught of violence between Mexican drug cartels fighting for turf and also battling against the policia. The scariest number I believe in all of this is the approximate 1,600 person death toll in Ciudad Juarez, which is directly across the border from Texas.

Due to the growing number of police officers throughout Mexico who have either been killed or turned to corruption throughout this shit, Mexican troops and Federales have been steadily increasing their presence in Mexican cities. Although they have been assisting the municipal police forces this entire time, these acts of violence that have put fear in each and every individual stuck the midst of this war haven't stopped. In fact, they get worse with each day.

Friday (March 9th, 2009), close to 7,000 troops and federal police poured into Ciudad Juarez to try and restore security to the city that is seeing the most bloodshed. Allow me to break this down: random vehicle checkpoints, masked soldiers patrolling the city streets, police in SWAT gear, surveillance cameras installed throughout the city, all of which are just a fragment of the forceful presence being shown to combat this war. Call it what you want, but that, my friends, is Martial Law. Many believe that this will produce the opposite effect of what it is enacted for; this will not bring about a calming effect, but instead the attacks will increase to a whole new level. Others say the increases number of troops and feds is bringing positive results. Only time will tell...

Keep a close eye on this situation Fixers, it could very well pour over into our neck of the woods...Trust me, we do NOT want to see martial law taking place in any area of our country. I hate to be the one to post negative news, but this is a serious situation. Hope everyone enjoys their Daly Fixing and have a wild ass, safe Spring Break.
