We all know its a bitch being a Kentucky basketball fan right now. Short of a historic SEC Tournament run, the Cats have an NIT tournament bid in their sights. Hopefully Billy Clyde and the Cats will make some much needed
adjustments and get themselves together for a nice four game stint. But as we anticipate the Big Blue invasion of Tampa, here are 5 reasons going to the NIT
WILL NOT kill us.
5. 1997-
Michigan State was knocked out of the NIT's 2nd round. State ended up winning the National Championship in 2000 with the "Flintstones." Haven't looked back since.
4. 1998-
Florida was knocked out of the first round of the NIT by Georgetown in '98. Florida would go on the get beat by Michigan State in the 2000 National Championship. Have won numerous SEC regular season and tournament titles since then, not to mention back-to-back National Championships in 2006 & 2007.
3. 2002/2006-
Before Louisville made the final four in 2005, getting beat by UNC, they had to rebuild from the ground up, then do it all over again. Now they are looking to make another solid run at the title this year. Even Rick Pitino sucks it up from time to time.
-I would also like to mention that Louisville went 12-20 in the 2000-2001 regular season and did not make the NIT.
2. 1997/2001-
UCONN had to regroup twice while winning two National Titles in 5 years. The Huskies
won the National Championship & 34 games in 1999. Won the National Championship again in 2004 and are looking to make another run at it this year.
1. 2003-
North Carolina's program took a turn for the worst in 2002 when they went 8-20 followed by a third round exit in the NIT in '03. Carolina ended up winning the National Title over Illinois in 2005 with the core of its players from the '03 NIT squad. Since then, the Tar Heals have been the most dominate and talented program in the nation and look to make another title run this year.
Running off Tubby Smith did nothing but get rid of a coach that couldn't win without Rick's players. Billy can't win with Tubby's players. The verdict is out on if Billy can win with his own players. We will be back, mark my words, we will return to our rightfull spot on top of of college basketball. Suck failure freaks
ReplyDeleteYour boy Ricky P also led the Tards to the NIT so it can't be that ridiculous to say that Billy G isn't that bad of a coach. And you just wait until football season Pecker, you'll get yours.
